What is (ETA) European Technical Assessment?

The ETA Certificate is awarded to products that are not fully or partially covered by harmonized technical standards such as Construction Products Regulation (EU/305/2011) (EADs) or European Standards (European Standards – hENs).

The ETA Document provides manufacturers with a way to use their products in the European Union.

The ETA Certificate is awarded to products that are not fully or partially covered by harmonized technical standards such as European Assessment Documents (EADs) or European Standards (European Standards – hENs).

The ETA Document is a valid document in all 28 member states of the European Union, in all countries of the European Economic Area and in Switzerland. The document is also recognized in other countries that have signed a Mutual Recognition Agreement ( MRA) with the European Union. The ETA Document is the starting point for the manufacturer's Declaration of Performance (DoP).

The ETA Document provides users with confidence regarding the performance of the basic properties of a building material in its intended use. Thanks to the ETA Certificate, it becomes possible to transport building materials freely and a step towards the targeted Single European market is taken.

The ETA Certificate is issued by an authorized Technical Assessment Body (TAB) at the request of the manufacturer.

The following information is included in each ETA document:

  • General information about the manufacturer and product type
  • Description of the product and its intended use
  • The performance of the product and the details of the methods used for this evaluation
  • Assessment and Verification of Constancy of Performance (AVCP)

ETA documents issued after July 1, 2013 remain permanently valid. Each document submitted is published on the EOTA official web page. ETA documents issued before June 30, 2013 (with the name of European Technical Approval until that date) are cancelled at the end of their validity period (no later than in 2018).

After July 1, 2013, all ETA Documents are submitted based on European Assessment Documents (EADs).
